Friendship Peak Summit Expedition

7 Days

The Friendship Peak Expedition is the ultimate gateway into the world of high-altitude mountaineering. Standing tall at 5,289 meters (17,346 ft) in the heart of the Pir Panjal Range, this expedition is designed for those who have outgrown standard trekking and are ready to face the challenge of glaciers, steep icy gullies, and thin mountain air.

Under the expert banner of The Star Adventure, this journey transcends a typical hike. Starting from the lush, cedar-scented valleys of Manali, the trail transitions into the rugged, ethereal landscape of the Beas Kund region. You will learn to navigate technical terrain using specialized gear like crampons and ice axes, culminating in a midnight summit push that rewards you with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges.

This isn’t just a climb; it’s a meticulously crafted experience where safety meets adrenaline, and every step upward is a testament to your grit.

Itinerary

Day 01 :
Arrival & Acclimatization in Manali

Your adventure begins in the vibrant town of Manali. After checking into the base camp provided by The Star Adventure, we focus on acclimatization.

  • Morning: Briefing session regarding the route and safety protocols.
  • Afternoon: A light acclimatization walk to local landmarks like Hadimba Temple or Jogini Falls to prepare your lungs for the thinning air.
  • Evening: Equipment check and final packing. Overnight stay in Manali.
Day 02 :
Manali – Solang Valley – Trek to Lady Leg (3,800m)

After an early breakfast, we take a short scenic drive to Solang Nala/Dhundi. From here, the real trek begins. We leave the motorable roads behind and hike through lush alpine meadows and oak forests. As the tree line fades, we reach our first campsite, Lady Leg, named for its unique geographical shape.

  • Highlights: Panoramic views of the Hanuman Tibba and Seven Sisters peaks.
Day 03 :
Lady Leg to Advance Base Camp (ABC)

Today involves a steep ascent as we move closer to the snow line. The terrain shifts from grassy slopes to moraine and glacial debris.

  • Technical Training: Upon reaching ABC, our guides will conduct a technical workshop. You will learn the basics of using crampons, ice axes, and roping up for the glacier crossing. This session is crucial for a safe summit attempt.
Day 04 :
Rest Day & Midnight Summit Push

Rest is a weapon in the mountains. We spend the day hydrating and conserving energy.

  • The Push: At approximately 1:00 AM (midnight), we begin our final ascent. Climbing in the dark ensures the snow is firm. Navigating steep icy gullies and ridges, we aim to reach the summit by sunrise.
  • The Reward: Witness a 360-degree view of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges as the sun hits the peaks. After celebrating at the top, we descend carefully back to ABC.
Day 05 :
Buffer Day (Reserve for Contingencies)

The weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable. This day is reserved specifically for the summit attempt in case of bad weather on Day 4. If the summit was successful, we use this day for a relaxed descent to the lower camps.

Day 06 :
Descent to Bakarthach / Solang

We begin our journey back, retracing our steps through the glaciers and meadows. The descent offers a different perspective of the Beas Kund valley. We set up camp for one last night in the wilderness or head closer to the trailhead depending on the group's pace.

Day 07 :
Return to Manali & Departure

A final trek leads us back to Solang Nala, where our vehicles wait to drive us back to Manali. We reach by early afternoon, giving you enough time to explore the local markets or board your evening bus for your onward journey.
